SYP is not a correspondence program. Qualified teachers work in person with each student, regardless of grade level, in a one-on-one setting. This teaching arrangement is the closest thing possible to a regular classroom experience for professional and private students who cannot attend traditional school. SYP is flexible in arranging a school schedule that suits the student’s academic and professional needs, and the SYP curriculum offers students a wide range in courses of study. SYP high school students may be eligible to take up to six online courses throughout their high school careers
Through report sheets, progress reports, and an open line of communication, SYP students and their parents are kept apprised of individual progress. SYP logs school hours, documents extracurricular activities, and compiles work portfolios for review on a semester basis.
Parents receive weekly report sheets in order to monitor their children’s progress. These report sheets contain the following information:
Portfolio of Course Work In order to demonstrate the quality of a student’s work, SYP composes a portfolio of significant written work, projects, and exams for each semester. Progress Reports and Transcripts A written evaluation of the student’s work is submitted to SYP by each teacher at the end of each marking period. This report describes the course work and awards a final letter grade in each course. Upon graduation or withdrawal from SYP, a final transcript indicating academic credit for satisfactory work is provided. SYP transcripts are recognized by traditional school programs, as well as by colleges and universities nationwide. Field Trips SYP students and teachers are encouraged to take advantage of diverse environments, cultures, and resources to take learning beyond the classroom. Opportunities for field trips exist within any city! |
